Long Distance Moving can be a Party!
As the year quickly draws to a close people across the country are making major decisions concerning their life and where to live it. With the state of our economy many are packing up and moving back home, others are making career moves that will catapult them from the east coast to the west coast and vice versa. While many are enveloped in crucial change, others are gearing up for the next tailgating event or even planning where they are going to host this year’s Christmas Soiree. America has graduated into a society that celebrates every event in life. From the beginning of summer to back to school, you name it we celebrate it. While this country is experiencing a mixture of moods, Why not intertwine the two. Move and Celebrate! That’s right, moving is a life changing event that should be a celebration and not a feat.
Often party planners are hired to orchestrate large events, or events that require major attention to detail. They ensure that every wish is carried out to the specification of the host. The planner leaves no stone unturned and is with you throughout the entire process. So, where do you start? How do you achieve moving and celebrating? I recommend you should start by hiring someone to plan this MOVE! Just like an event planner you want the mover to pay attention to detail, plan with you from beginning to end and do it with quality, efficiency and care. A reputable moving company has a trained staff that can handle a long distance move of a large family to a small apartment move of a college student back home.
In most instances your Long Distance Move should begin with a free in-home estimate from an in-home estimator. The estimator will conduct a survey of your property. His or her goal is to map out a move plan and to provide you with fair and honest pricing.
Once you’ve selected your mover, you now need to begin to prepare your home for the move. You will receive several tips from the moving company on how to make the move as smooth as possible. I’ve listed a few of my own below:
- Plan a garage sale to eliminate items that you don't need.
- Secure change of address information from postal service
- Notify utility companies of cancellation of services
- Assemble important documents (i.e. policies, birth certificates, school records etc.)
- Garner packing materials(only needed if you are doing the packing)
- Disconnect major appliances
Remember you’re looking for a moving company that is going to be with you throughout the entire process of your move. As time draws close to your family’s big day you should receive a call from your relocation specialist to confirm the arrival time of the crew. He will also be checking to see if there are any last minute details that he and his team may need to address. If you are taking advantage of their packing services the relocation specialist may advise you of a packing day prior to the move. If that’s the case, the team will arrive at your home with ample packing supplies to get your house move ready. Move ready simply means everything packed, disassembled, labeled and facing the door. This move ready process assists the moving crew in expediting the loading of the carrier. Also, another tidbit to note, some moving companies will throw in something here and there …maybe free wardrobe boxes. It never hurts to ask.
On move day you want to make sure that the foreman goes over the logistics/move plan with you to make certain you are comfortable with the process. Once you guys have met the crew should then begin loading, because time is money. At the end of loading I recommend a final walk-through of the home. Once loading is done, unloading is only hours away!
You can move and celebrate because you selected a reputable moving company to handle your family’s move. Your valuables will not just arrive but will arrive in one piece.
